Chennai: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M K Stalin on Thursday entreated his Kerala counterpart Pinarayi Vijayan to hold the practice of asserting January 14 as a neighborhood holiday for the Pongal pageant for Tamils living in that country. Taking the issue to the attention of the Kerala Chief Minister, Stalin requested that a nearby holiday be declared for Pongal in six districts of the neighboring State in which Tamil-talking human beings stay in massive numbers. "I am given to take into account that during the last 12 years the Kerala authorities has been maintaining January 14 as a neighborhood vacation for the Pongal pageant, which is likewise the first day of the auspicious Tamil month 'Thai.' But this year, January 15 is proposed to be declared a holiday in these six districts," the Chief Minister said in a letter addressed to his counterpart. He sought Vijayan to maintain the exercise of putting forward January 14, because the local holiday for the Pongal pageant as it's far being celebrated on that specific date everywhere in the world among the Tamil communities.
